My wife Usha and I spent a few days in July 2010 with our friends, the Rajadhyaksha's, at Bamboo Banks. It was a memorable stay in an ecology carefully sustained by Siasp Kothavala. I have never lived closer to nature so comfortably. The old world charm of the place is memorable - we can't wait to go back there again.

Thanks

Thanks to Shenaz and robert, we had a great time at this jungle retreat. The ambience and the flora are simply awesome and the serene atmosphere is best experienced than described. We just stumbled upon this place and were overwhelmed by the hospitality extended (despite no reservations etc) by the ever gracious Shenaz and the ever helpful robert. Thanks to siasp and zerene, the bourgeois can now experience and afford true comfort in the lap of nature.

Long Holiday of 2009

Srinivasan, Sriram, Sunil & fmly, on Mon, 28th December 2009

It was a great experience being in bamboo banks. The food served here appealed to the varied tastes of all in our family from 2 yr old to 68 yr old and from Tokyo to Bangalore. The service and ambience was exceptional and it suprised us all. For all the postive feedback it would also suit to make a suggestion from us to the staff. It would be great to have more quantity of food sometimes as we often tend to overeat :-)..

We stayed a few days at the end of 2008 in this resort. We had lovely food but more interesting were the conversations with mr and mrs. Khotavala. We had a interesting safari with a jeep but also on elephant back. Mr. Kothavala went with us to get a close look at tea and coffee plants. We saw a lot of India but these were undoubtly the most interesting days. Which them al the best and hope that mr. Kothavala can make for years and years his morning ride over his estate.

We finally made it back here after 10 years of itching to return! If anything we enjoyed ourselves even more the second time. Siasp and Zerene Kothevala have the uncanny knack of making their guests feel like welcome friends - even those who return once every 10 years! Thank you to everyone at Bamboo Banks for your hospitality and friendship.

Of Wrestling Langurs and Misty Mountains

Prashant Kataria, on Mon, 20th November 2006

Me and my friend just got back from this charming place yesterday and the sense of having left such an amazing place does seems to work on the psyche. The view of the Blue Mountains capped by clouds was quite captivating and so was the sight of a bunch of langurs wrestling and generally chasing each other. Quite to our amusement, these simians decided to host their own wrestling tournament of the roof of our cottage, and by Jove, made this event known to all in the vicinity. All in all, the stay was a lovely one with excellent service and amusing chat sessions with Siasp. The hospitality far exceeded our expectations. Hope to visit the hosts at their property again and witness, perhaps the finals of the tournament with the backdrop of the misty mountains.

Of Saddle Chairs, Royal Breakfasts and Blue Hills

Sanjna and Vishal Malpani, on Sat, 4th November 2006

Dear Zerene and Siasp: Its been almost 11 years since we enjoyed your hospitality. We had come to spend our honeymoon days (in early Feb of 1996) at your lovely place! The blue hills have been etched in our memories... and also, the horse saddle that you used as your office chair!.... and the most exotic spread of a breakfast which we were treated to right in our cottage verandah!..... to this day we remember that breakfast!.... and the wonderful stone table at dinner, where both of you made the atmosphere so lively and pleasant.... We now have 2 boys age 5 and 3, and we live in the US. We'd love to bring them along next time we are ther- hopefully not too long from now! Hope you are keeping good health. All the very best!

Having fun relaxes our mind and refreshes our thoughts in the garden and playing on the slides and swings.

Great Stay, but long ago ....

Jamshed & Ann Mulla, on Sun, 8th January 2006

Siasp & Zerene: I do hope you remember us. We visited Bamboo Banks in 1978 and again in 1986 and had a wonderful time on both occasions. The cottages were very comfortable and the kids loved rambling around the porch of the main house and exploring the grounds. The trips to the game sanctuary were very memorable, especially when Sisap got us on foot tracking an elephant!! Best Wishes to you and we hope we can visit again some day in the future.

Notings from the Web

RFI, on Mon, 5th December 2005

Since friends of my wife's family owned Bamboo Banks we stayed here for one night, although I had a little trepidation after reading "Bamboo Banks is best avoided unless you are a hunter" in Kazmierczak & Singh. Our stay turned out to be superb (and cheap) and I have no idea what justified such an unfair comment - I had visions of hunting trophies hanging everywhere but the reality was completely different. Bamboo Banks is set amidst excellent well-watered vegetation beside a river and produced the birding highlight of the trip in the form of a pair of Blue-bearded Bee-eaters seen at close range from the outdoor dining table! At Bamboo Banks they can also arrange treks and elephant/jeep rides. Overall, thoroughly recommended. The full board, one night stay for the two of us cost a total of 2000 Rupees plus excursions.
